Skype QOS on OpenWRT

If you are calling Skype to Skype and sharing Internet connection with roomies Skype calls can be sometimes painful. I have always used qos-scripts package in OpenWRT distro. But doing Skype qos is not easy without L7 protocol filters.

I got finally fed up with choppy Skype calls and installed l7-protocols package. The only thing that was missing was Skype protocol filter. Those can be downloaded from l7-filters website. All you need to do is save the filter in /etc/l7-protocols/skype and configure it through LuCI qos interface. There is kinda outdated howto on this.

I am actually pretty happy with results as the phone call quality is almost as good as with regular phones.
