A little while ago OpenWRT 10.03 Backfire came out. I decided to take it for a spin. Until now I had been running OpenWRT 8.09. The other 8.09.X releases were to very stable for me. Backfire has been pretty stable so far on my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54DD.

The only hickup during upgrade was opkg.conf file. I could not install any additional software. I found a bug report that was fairly similar to what I was experiencing. So I ended up having to change some parts of my opkg.conf file:

src/gz packages http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03/brcm-2.4/packages
dest root /
dest ram /tmp
lists_dir ext /var/opkg-lists
option overlay_root /overlay

After that software install process worked just fine.
